What the recycling price includes
Compared with a standard batch plant of similar output, an RMX-R adds:
- RAP feed bins with belt feeders, separate from the virgin aggregate feed
- A dedicated RAP drying drum that warms RAP without direct flame contact
- Heated RAP surge bin and RAP scale feeding the mixer batch by batch
- Control system functions for RAP recipes and temperature balance
Crushing and screening equipment for RAP, and covered RAP storage, are usually separate items.
How to estimate payback with your own numbers
Use this method rather than anyone’s headline savings figure — including ours.
Step 1 — RAP tons per year. How much milled asphalt can you reliably get each year, after crushing losses? Call it R.
Step 2 — Material saved per ton of RAP. RAP replaces new aggregate and part of the new bitumen. Estimate:
- aggregate saved ≈ 1 ton of aggregate per ton of RAP, at your delivered aggregate price A
- bitumen saved ≈ RAP binder content credited by the mix design (for example 4% → 0.04 t), at your bitumen price B
Saving per ton of RAP ≈ A + (credited binder × B)
Step 3 — Extra costs per ton of RAP. RAP crushing and screening, extra fuel for the RAP drum, extra maintenance, testing, and any rejuvenator. Call the total C.
Step 4 — Net saving per year = R × (saving per ton − C)
Step 5 — Payback = extra price of the recycling plant over a standard plant ÷ net saving per year
| Input | Your figure |
|---|---|
| R — RAP available per year (t) | |
| A — delivered new aggregate price ($/t) | |
| Credited RAP binder (%) | |
| B — delivered bitumen price ($/t) | |
| C — extra cost per ton of RAP ($/t) | |
| Extra plant price over standard batch plant ($) |
Send us your figures and we will run the calculation with you, including how much RAP your specification allows in each layer.
When not to buy a recycling plant
- Millings are occasional or spread across distant sites
- Your agency does not yet accept RAP in the layers you produce
- Bitumen and aggregate are cheap locally, so savings per ton are small
In these cases, a standard batch plant with space reserved for a RAP line later is usually the better first step.
