Is 120 t/h the right size for your contract?
A 120 t/h plant typically supplies 600–800 tons of mix in an 8-hour shift. That is the most common size for national and provincial road contracts: big enough for a full paving crew on a two-lane highway, small enough to ship, install and move economically.
Paving-rate math
Work backwards from what the paver will lay:
| Step | Example: 7 m wide road, 5 cm surface course |
|---|---|
| Area per km | 7,000 m² |
| Volume per km | 350 m³ |
| Tons per km (at about 2.35 t/m³) | about 820 t |
| Daily plant output (120 t/h × 8 h × 75%) | about 720 t |
| Paving per day | about 0.9 km |
Change the width, thickness or density to your project. If your schedule needs more than the plant’s daily output, either add hours or move up to 160 t/h.
The 120 t/h options
| RMX-C120 | RMX-B120 | RMX-M120 | RMX-D120 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Containerized batch | Stationary batch | Mobile batch | Drum mix |
| Mixer | 1,500 kg/batch | 1,500 kg/batch | 1,500 kg/batch | — |
| Installed power | 305 kW | 380 kW | 330 kW | 200 kW |
| Foundation | Compacted pad | Concrete | Compacted ground | Light |
| Indicative FOB price | $330,000 – $405,000 | $280,000 – $360,000 | $350,000 – $405,000 | $170,000 – $240,000 |
| Best for | Highway contracts that move every 1–3 years | Long-term plant on one corridor | Maintenance and short contracts | One base mix, lowest cost |
For highway work, most buyers choose the RMX-C120: batch accuracy for surface courses, and the ability to move to the next contract without new foundations.
Trucks and logistics
The plant only produces as fast as trucks take mix away. With 20-ton trucks:
| Round trip (load, haul, unload, return) | Trucks needed for ~90 t/h actual output |
|---|---|
| 30 minutes | about 3–4 |
| 60 minutes | about 5–6 |
| 90 minutes | about 7–8 |
A hot mix storage silo buffers uneven truck arrivals so the plant does not stop each time the queue is empty.
What a 120 t/h site needs
- Aggregate: roughly 680 tons a day at 720 t of mix; at least three to five days of stockpile
- Bitumen: about 32–43 tons a day at 4.5–6% binder
- Fuel (oil-fired batch plant): roughly 4–5 tons a day at 5.5–7 kg/t, more in the wet season
- Power: 305–380 kW installed for batch models; generator sized above that with starting margin
- Lab: daily gradation, binder content and Marshall or equivalent tests for the specification
