What the chassis adds to the price

Compared with a stationary batch plant of the same output, a mobile plant carries extra cost in:

  • Road-going chassis for the main units — frames, axles, suspension, brakes, lights and kingpins
  • Leveling legs so each unit can be set level on prepared ground
  • Compact, foldable structures — conveyors and ducts that fold or detach for transport
  • Quick connections for cables, fuel and bitumen lines between trailers

What it removes is most of the work at each move: no concrete foundations, few crane lifts, and far less re-erection of steel.

The real cost of each move

Buyers often compare purchase prices and forget the moving bill. For a mobile plant, list these for every relocation:

Item What to check
Tractor units Own fleet or hired; number of trailers to move
Permits and escorts Oversize-load rules on your routes
Crew days Dismantling, travel, setting up, burner and scale checks
Site preparation Level, compacted area for legs and truck circulation
Lost production Days without output between sites

If the plant moves several times a year by road, these costs are where a mobile plant earns back its higher price. If it moves once every few years, or overseas, a containerized plant is often cheaper overall.

Indicative price, 60 t/h $180,000 – $240,000 about $110,000
Mix flexibility Changes recipe batch by batch Best on one standard mix
Specification fit Tight tolerances, surface courses Base courses, rural roads, maintenance
Typical buyer Contractors with varied contracts Agencies and contractors on one long program

New or used mobile plant?

Used mobile plants are common on the market because contractors sell them between programs. If you consider one:

  1. Inspect the drum shell, flights and riding rings, and the mixer shafts and liners — the expensive wear parts
  2. Check the baghouse (bag condition and fan) and burner
  3. Inspect the chassis, axles and brakes — they must be roadworthy for every move
  4. Confirm the control system still has software support and spare parts
  5. Budget refurbishment and the move to your site before comparing with a new price
